Pet friendly vacations and travel planning make sense -- after all, pets are family members too! In the United States alone, over 60 million households have one or more pets. Pet owners in 15 million of those households travel with their pet, and the majority stay in pet friendly lodging. Fortunately, pet friendly hotels, condos and vacation home rentals do exist. If you will be planning pet friendly vacations, here are some tips for safe and trouble-free travel.

Pass It On...

The bus was full... every seat filled. The Destination was New York City. It was time to leave. A young man leaped into the bus and appeared confused and alarmed. He had a decided accent - British. He was holding money and reached out to the driver.

As the driver explained that the bus was full and it was time to leave, the young man became more distressed. He said he had traveled from England to see his young son, who was seriously injured in an automobile accident while visiting America with his mother. They were waiting in one of the small towns in Northeastern Pennsylvania on the way to New York.

Online Travel Statistics

The Travel Industry Association of America (TIA) released their annual Travelers’ Use of the Internet study in December 2003. The study shows an increase in the number of people using the internet to research and book travel.

TIA found that 30% of the adult U.S. population (63.8 million) consult the web for travel information. These travelers spend (on average) $300 more on travel, and nearly 40% had an annual household income above $75,000.

Cruises. That word brings visions of sun, fun, food and maybe a hint of decadence. Now consider Mexico cruises... and add in the exotic, tropical, and a sense of the old world.

Mexico cruises come in a variety of shapes, forms and sizes. You can cruise the Pacific side of the country, or the Gulf of Mexico side. You can find cruise that stops at nearly every possible port or only at a select few. Some cruise itineraries may offer an extended stay in port that allows you to explore the countryside.

But are Mexico cruises all fun in the sun? That answer is a qualified yes - as long as you do your homework.

Last Minute Vacations

Many savvy travelers take advantage of last minute deals by scheduling their vacation time as normal, and within a two week period of their travel date start looking for their perfect budget vacation. All of the most popular destinations have hotel rooms that have not been filled, and many air flights are not fully booked. These deals come when hotels realize they still have inventory, and airline seats are still available within two weeks of any travel date, or less. At this point, both hotels and airlines are willing to offer deep discounts for those who can take advantage.
